Context
Recent projects have two constituents, the first being a
mixed media montage of found or collected objects and ephemera
on board, burlap or in a display case; the second being
an edition of prints which are intimately connected to the
first. The montage, which I call 'the Object', describes
a place, actual or imagined, psychological or physical.
Prints take form at any stage in the construction of this
object. They become samples or outposts, remote yet connected
to their source. The 10cm square is an interpretive device.
It is part of a 1 metre square grid used by biologists and
archaeologists to record data and represents a way of making
sense of something. Yearly, winter trips to the Cairngorms
pose interpretive problems. How do I describe a complex
system like the Red Hills? This is one of my major ongoing
projects.Stuart Harvey
